BARRY PAYNE AND THE LONG SHADOWS

Date: Sat 18th July
Time: 4pm - 4:45pm

Barry Payne is an English singer/songwriter, bass player and multi-instrumentalist whose musical heritage stretches back to the early 70’s. As a teenager he grew up in the faded but attitudinal seaside town we know as Clacton-on-Sea, and was a founder member of the proto-punk band, ‘The Johnny 7 Combo’. He soon realised that music could be a passport out to the rest of the world and immersed himself in the London pub rock scene as it began to morph into the nascent Punk movement.  In 1977 he became a full time member of Wreckless Eric’s band (playing bass on Eric’s seminal first LP for Stiff Records). Then at 20 with San Francisco’s Pearl Harbour (& the Explosions) working and touring extensively with groups such as The Clash, Talking Heads and The B52’s.  Over subsequent years he has worked and toured with a diverse collection of artists ranging from Madness, Eurythmics and Steve Marriott to Chris Jagger and The Alabama 3.   Now taking control of his own destiny and the centre stage as Barry Payne & The Long Shadows (and drawing from a back catalogue of 40 years worth of unreleased material).
